MentoringExpert Code of Ethics

The MentoringExpert Code of Ethics serves as the guiding principles for all certified mentors, ensuring that mentorship is practiced with integrity, respect, and professionalism across all industries and contexts.

All certified individuals agree to uphold these values as a condition of their certification and membership in the MentoringExpert Circle.


  1. Commitment to Professionalism
    • Act in a manner that reflects positively on the mentoring profession and the MentoringExpert brand.
    • Demonstrate competence in mentoring by applying the skills and standards outlined in the MentoringExpert Competency Framework.
    • Continuously pursue personal and professional development to maintain and enhance mentoring effectiveness.

  2. Integrity and Honesty
    • Be truthful about your qualifications, experience, and mentoring capabilities.
    • Avoid exaggerating achievements or misrepresenting outcomes of the mentoring relationship.
    • Maintain transparency in communication with mentees, stakeholders, and the Certification Committee.

  3. Respect for the Mentee
    • Treat all mentees with dignity, fairness, and respect, regardless of gender, race, religion, culture, background, or personal beliefs.
    • Recognize and respect the mentee’s autonomy in decision-making.
    • Foster a safe and supportive environment that encourages open dialogue and growth.

  4. Confidentiality
    • Maintain the confidentiality of all information shared within the mentoring relationship unless explicit consent is given or disclosure is required by law.
    • Respect privacy in documenting mentoring hours, ensuring any identifying information is handled responsibly.

  5. Avoidance of Conflicts of Interest
    • Declare any potential conflicts of interest that could affect the objectivity of the mentoring relationship.
    • Avoid engaging in relationships or activities that may compromise impartiality or professional judgment.

  6. Boundaries and Appropriate Conduct
    • Maintain professional boundaries at all times, avoiding relationships or behavior that could be perceived as exploitative or harmful.
    • Use communication and behavior that reflects mutual respect and professionalism.

  7. Accountability
    • Take responsibility for the outcomes of your mentoring practice and for any actions that may impact mentees or the profession.
    • Cooperate with the MentoringExpert Certification Committee in the event of an ethical review or investigation.
    • Accept that violation of this Code may result in disciplinary action, up to and including revocation of certification.

  8. Commitment to the MentoringExpert Community
    • Actively contribute to the growth and reputation of the MentoringExpert Circle.
    • Share knowledge, best practices, and resources with fellow mentors to elevate the profession globally.
    • Represent the MentoringExpert Certification with pride and uphold its values in all professional interactions.
